Mantis Re-brand

Corporate Identity Design

Mantis is a family-run collection of award-winning, privately-owned, five-star boutique hotels, game reserves, eco lodges, ski lodges, chalets and yachts located around the world. All of the properties represent the finest example of their kind and celebrate the culture, gastronomy, architecture and natural beauty of their locales.

We were briefed to re-position the brand from both a strategic and visual perspective. After considering numerous logo options, varying from evolutionary to revolutionary, the former was selected as the preferred route due to the equity that has already been established in the original logo mark.

This re-imagination was rolled out across an array of stationery and brand elements.

This project was executed in partnership with Area213 International.

Heroic Deli

Brand Identity and Menu Design
 .
The Heroic Deli is making its debut on Santa Monica Blvd, Los Angeles with a new approach to the old Italian hero sandwich that has remained relatively unchanged for over 100 years.
  .
The Heroic Deli will combine the finest imported Italian Salumi, Prosciutto, Mortadella, premium cuts and cheeses with the freshest local California produce and serve them on freshly-baked, still-warm bread to provide a next-level sandwich experience.
  .
With this in mind, the brief from Adam Fleischman (of Umami Burgers, 800 Degrees Pizza and Cold Cocked Coffee) and his famous eating partner, Jeffrey Merrihue, was succinct: a logo that was clean, simple and modern, but tipped its hat to old Italy.

Baxter’s Good Dog Food Co.

Logo and Packaging Design

Baxter’s Good Dog Food Co. offers a premium range of dog foods made with freshly-prepared meats, veggies and a delicately balanced blend of culinary oils, vitamins and minerals to support a long, healthy and happy life.

The brief was to reflect the premium nature of the product in the design while still making the packaging affordable (with small production runs in mind). This project was one incredibly close to the heart of our client, Hayley Baxter, and her passion inspired us to produce a logo that borrows her name and the silhouettes of her two dogs.

MaxiVit Chewies

Packaging Design

MaxiVit Chewies is a daily vitamin supplement formulated to give children and teens all the vitamins and minerals they need in one chewable tablet.

The brief was to create a design that would form part of the MaxiVit adult range family while clearly indicating a difference, so colour and a geometric pattern have been used to clearly differentiate MaxiVit Chewies from its adult counterparts (view here).

All of the MaxiVit products have all been packaged in hexagonal boxes to reflect one of the strongest shapes in nature and reflect the product and its key function: strengthening the human body and immune system. This hexagonal shape has been enforced in a number of small elements throughout the design.

Coro

Logo Development and Branding

We were tasked to create a visual identity for a new wheel manufacturer, Coro, based in the Netherlands. The aim was to create a modern feel but suggest the notion of heritage, quality and craftsmanship. The logo icon itself is made up of four concentric and incomplete circles designed to both spell out the name and to form complete circles when the icon spins as a badge in the centre of the alloy wheels.

Mitchell’s Craft Beer

Identity and Packaging Design

Mitchell’s Brewing was founded in Knysna in 1983, making it South Africa’s original Craft Brewery. Since the creation of the original label, the craft beer market has exploded in South Africa. The key strategic ask from a design perspective was how to make the brand feel relevant and modern but not too ‘craft’ and not too ‘mainstream’. The packaging also had to stand out on shelf amongst a very bold, design-savvy and competitive category.

0

The client requested a ‘revolutionary over evolutionary’ approach. The old label was completely set aside while important brand cues such as the logo and colour were maintained but modernised.

This work was done for Watson|Ferguson on behalf of Mitchell’s.

WYSO School Shoe

Introducing WYSO – a new generation of school shoe. Organic. Recycled. Free from harmful chemicals. Striving towards biodegradability. It’s the future of sustainable schoolwear.

In the rationale for this name, it was suggested that Wyso sounded like a question: “Why so?” There is an active engagement in the process of saying the name; a sense of being present.

When conceptualising the logo, we tried to simply capture the idea of speaking using a graphic mnemonic with which we are all unquestionably familiar.

Opulence Wine

Packaging and Logo Developement

The brief was simple: create a new brand of wine for a new brand of wine drinker, men and women looking for a bold, luxurious and brazenly indulgent wine to match their high-flying lifestyles.

“Opulence” was created to be their obvious choice, intricately designed to stand out on shelf, and to exude a sense of decadence synonymous with its name.

Inspired by the greatest era of sheer overindulgence, Opulence draws on the distinct and decadent style of Art Deco, soaking itself in this golden age of roaring 20’s design to make the label work incredibly hard at winning the hearts and wallets of a target market that traditionally struggles to be confident in their wine purchase at shelf.

LaunchLab

We were tasked with creating a brand identity for SU LaunchLab, an incubator dedicated to fostering the entrepreneurial community at Stellenbosch University. The lab supports the development of impactful, sustainable, and profitable businesses while facilitating access to market opportunities and funding.

The key challenge was to design a brand that clearly reflected its affiliation with the University, while maintaining a distinct identity and addressing the concerns of all stakeholders.

The final result is a sleek, modern brand design that incorporates the University’s color palette as a unifying element, but features unique iconography and a distinct visual language to ensure its independence and individuality.

Ben Wren Wine

Brand Identity and Packaging Design

Gold at #thewinelabeldesignawards 2019

Internationally, premium box wines are a huge (and growing) success. In South Africa, however, they’re viewed as the true bottom of the barrel.

Ben Wren Wine is here to change that.

Their vision is to unashamedly embrace the box, using bold and breakout design to drag the humble box wine from the bottom shelf into the limelight – whether it liked it or not. And took it a step further by introducing a canned wine too.

But we knew we wouldn’t succeed without ensuring that what was in the box was as magnificent as what we’d printed on the outside. That’s why all of their wine is sourced from boutique vineyards, delighting the palate without disappointing with loads of sulphites.

The result? A startlingly-successful, high-quality, unpretentious and courageously-designed wine in a box that breaks out of its category through inventing an entirely new one, and is as proud to be at your picnic as it is to feature at your dinner table.
