Brand Identity
Formist (formally known as Interior & Architecture Inc.) wanted to re-invent themselves under a new name and corporate identity.
Book Cover Design
I was approached by Penguin Random House to design and illustrate the cover of Katherine White’s new book, Anna Peter’s Year of Cooking Dangerously. The book is of the “chick lit” genre and the cover needed to appeal to the market and stand out on shelf.
The first image is the final cover they approved and printed. The second image is my preferred cover design.
Here is the book synopsis:
Anna Peters has been dumped by her long-term love, Garry, and needs to figure out what to do with her broken heart. Tackling her misery by trying to cook her way back into her beau’s life, she learns a few things – like what mussels are supposed to smell like, how much she knows and doesn’t know about sirloin, and how to sidestep a consommé that’s never going to happen. She also, ahem, taste-tests a few of the eligible men who have been under her nose all along. But is Anna Peters finally ready to taste reality? Or will she burn down the kitchen before then? Full of good sex and great recipes, Anna Peters’ Year of Cooking Dangerously is a mouth-watering feast.
Icon Rejuvenation Project
I was approached by RSVP – King James to relook the way the Santam umbrella is used in communication. At the time the brief was incredibly open. In fact there was no official brief. All they wanted was me to explore how to use the umbrella differently.
Suffice to say that this was possibly my favourite project of 2015. I was allowed to completely reimagine an old South African icon which was both a daunting and exciting task. It has subsequently been approved by client as the new look and feel and these concept designs are now the starting point and base for RSVP artwork going forward.
Corporate Identity Design
Twelve Cape is not an hotel brand but in fact an investment holding company that invests in fixed properties (mainly apartments) to be run as “apartment hotels” or serviced apartments.
With the above in mind, we were briefed to create a logo and corporate stationery.
The client’s core business lies on the Atlantic Seaboard and they wished to focus on this link to the iconic Twelve Apostles mountain range – inspiring our design of the (unromantically-named) “fish” icon, which is constructed from 12 triangles to produce “mountain” shapes in both the positive and negative space.
Please note that the logo displayed is not the final logo nor the palette selected by the client, but was however my recommendation.
Shoshannah’s Skateboard
A determined teen girl sneaks out of her devout orthodox community with one goal: to become a YouTube Skateboard star. A short film by Kate Ascott-Evans that was featured at the Short Sighted Cinema in London.
Logo Development
Oceans Yachting is a company based in the United States that manages private super yachts in and around the US and Caribbean. The brief was to create a logo that would not only stand out from the competition, but also reflect the quality and calibre of their services and clients.
Logo and Packaging Design
Rodeo7 was originally briefed and conceptualised as a herbal extract “virility and energy” drink for the broader African market, a marked journey from the Vermouth-classified “energy drink” that appears on shelf today.
The last three images are an example of the project origins and a few of the designs that we loved but didn’t make the final cut.
Corporate Identity Design
The Silo was original a working grain silo within the wokring harbour of the V&A Waterfront. It had become derelict after many years of neglect. Recently it has been revamped into a beautiful hotel and modern art museum.
Silo Number 3 is an apartment block that is located next to the original silo, No 1 Silo. The brief was to create an identity and stationery for Apartment 608. It needed to be clean, modern and sophisticated while reflecting not only 608 but the shape of the silo as well.
The approved route has been showcased along with 4 other logos that were also presented.
Corporate Identity Design
Mantis is a family-run collection of award-winning, privately-owned, five-star boutique hotels, game reserves, eco lodges, ski lodges, chalets and yachts located around the world. All of the properties represent the finest example of their kind and celebrate the culture, gastronomy, architecture and natural beauty of their locales.
We were briefed to re-position the brand from both a strategic and visual perspective. After considering numerous logo options, varying from evolutionary to revolutionary, the former was selected as the preferred route due to the equity that has already been established in the original logo mark.
This re-imagination was rolled out across an array of stationery and brand elements.
This project was executed in partnership with Area213 International.
